Back on street at Eureka Plaza and Oceana BLVD

Crossing the street at Eureka Plaza and Oceana BLVD presents a bit of a challenge to conscientious pedestrians. Cars and trucks tend to take flight at this intersection, flying off of Oceana BLVD to turn onto the street at Eureka Plaza, or flying onto Oceana BLVD from the street at Eureka Plaza.

As a pedestrian you find there is a moment as you walk across the street here, that you will be praying that the car zipping down from the Eureka Plaza street will slow down.

One night a car didn't slow down. (yes, I called and reported the incident to the police) As I walked across at this section one evening, a car was coming from down at the other end of Eureka Plaza along this side street, the car not only sped up, but the driver purposely swerved toward me in a attempt to hit me, and would have, had I not run into the bank parking area. (the driver was grinning and laughing as he continued past, and as so many other drivers do, went right through the Stop sign. Unfortunately, I didn't get the license plate number.

But, that was (I hope) a rare incident. We should all feel safe when we're walking to the store, or to the beach, wherever we're headed. It would be a huge help, and step in the right direction, to paint-mark the street with more detail-outling the space-where pedestrians should be safe to cross, especially at this section where the Eureka Plaza side street meets up with Oceana BLVD. vlb (ps, regarding the vehicles shown in these photos, the truck drove right through without stopping at the stop sign, and the car slowed down after seeing me with a camera aimed to take a picture.)
