Whales at the Pacifica State Beach in Linda Mar, Pacifica, California

[Linda Mar area in Pacifica, California]
My palm treo camera unfortunately could not capture a tight shot of the water spouts coming from several whales feeding off the coast in Pacifica, California Friday. But it was exciting to see all of the activity from these whales. It was a constant show, not just a one time whale sighting off the coast.

Even Baji and Luna, the Maltese poodle, and miniature German Spitz pictured above, seemed to be enjoying the distant spouts, and the whale activity as well.

News reports on Wednesday warned that people were getting to close to the whales, to get a closer view of them, causing officials to be concerned that the whales might abandon their calves, and leave the much needed feeding area that seems to be providing nourishment for them along the coast in Pacifica. Gratefully on Friday, while I saw people trying to get a better vantage point to see the whales, I saw one surfer on a small isolated island just off the coast, checking out the whales, but everyone was keeping the required 300 foot distance from the whales. vlb
