MEASURE D for Pacifica, California, here's the link to read the full measure. http://www.cityofpacifica.org/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=3316
I started this blog to bring to light, problem areas of Pacifica, that I see in my daily life, especially the lack of sidewalks and street markings that lead to unsafe conditions. I hate to see this town fall into decay, and remain unsafe.
But, is MEASURE D, an added 1% tax in Pacifica the only way to make these improvements happen? (Meds and Food won't have the additional tax)
"The Yes on Measure D includes tough accountability provisions requiring annual audits, public oversight and quarterly public meetings. These fiscal safeguards will ensure funds are used efficiently, effectively and as promised." Well, it sounds like it will take more money to watch over the added tax. Plus, where are the improvements from the past monies brought in from the 'Fire Assessment'
In some of the 'against the tax' statements I read, "City services will remain the same as last year, which worked well for everyone." Did it? Work well?
It's a tough time for sure to be adding a tax to our plate. But, I think this city needs help, and Pacifica as a community needs to come together from the beaches, to the business section, to the streets of Pacifica where we live.
I don't think 'city services have worked well' in the areas of keeping the streets upgraded and safe, which is why this blog was started. It's rare to hear a siren from a police car in Pacifica, it's a safe place to live overall, when compared to neighboring cities. There are volunteer groups doing a great job of keeping up the wetlands at the beach. Plus the stairs built in at the hillside, by the levy, and down from the Chit Chat Cafe, are very safe, and a great improvement. But, the neighborhood streets need help.
Can we do better? What are the options? vlb
